About Us

What do we do?

We get together and write! Bring your work, whatever you’re writing or working on. We chat a little bit, introduce ourselves and what we’re writing, then we work. This is not a formal critique group. Join us for community and solidarity in getting words on the page. Right now, we’re on Discord in the chat or virtual voice channels. Check our scheduled nights. Hopefully sometime soon in-person write-ins will resume!

What can you expect from us?

The Princeton Writing Group welcomes writers from the wider Central NJ region and beyond. We are open to writers of all genres and forms (books, scripts, poem, dissertations, etc.). Our purpose is to provide a supportive environment for writers, with emphasis on productivity, community, and improvement.

Our members are self-directed, and use the group as a resource to further their goals. PWG was founded to provide a regular space for writers to meet and work on their individual projects. Our Weekly Write-Ins are the backbone of the group, providing members with a chunk of time they can dedicate to their work. The routine and consistency allow us to accomplish the things we were putting off to ‘one day.’ Great things happen when you make time for them.

We also host discussions, go on field trips, run contests, hold mixers, and we are expanding into critiques. For most meetings, you do not need to worry about arriving late or leaving early. Come when you can, for as long as you can. It is polite to let the organizer of the meetup know.

We do not require that you be a professional or published writer, only that you have spirit and dedication. There are no age limits or recommendations. We ask that minors be accompanied by an adult. We are open to suggestions from members, and would love to hear from you.

We are an Equal Opportunity group and do not discriminate against any member or guest because of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, political affiliation, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.

Princeton Writing Group is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion. Building a welcoming and supportive culture that draws on the individual strengths of members from different ethnic backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles, abilities, and experiences is key to our success. We have a wonderfully diverse group of writers, so please be conscientious of comments which could be offensive.

Meet the Team

Jenny B

Co-Organizer

I have a BA in English w/minor in Print Journalism (was a news reporter for the college paper while doing creative writing).

By day, I’m a communications professional at a social policy research company. In my spare time, I co-lead Princeton Writing Group, and write romance and fiction.

I did my 1st NaNoWriMo in 4/13 (won,30K) on my 1st novel, “The Unflingable Fling.” I also love movies, traveling, hanging out with my nephew, and kayaking.

Robin Lovett (aka Sarah)

I started writing in 2013 and joined PWG the same year. Jenny and I have been co-leaders since 2016, when we inherited the group from Shen.

I write mostly romance novels while dabbling in other things, and I’ve published seven books with St. Martin’s Press and Entangled Publishing.

Find me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook @lovettromance.

Publishing motto: Shut up and write!

Denita

Blog Editor

I’ve been a member of PWG since 2016 and I run the blog!

I’ve been writing off and on for over 20 years (yikes, that’s a long time). I started out in journalism in college and moved into creative writing as a way to cope with depression, anxiety and trauma.

My style has evolved and grown as I’ve learned more about the craft, but I continue to write about my lived experience and mental health through personal essays, blog posts, creative nonfiction and poetry. My first book, a poetry collection called “Invisible Veils” was published in 2019 and I’m working on a memoir, “Disorderly Life” and a screenplay adaptation as well.

Saad Ansari runs the PWG discord server and PWG podcast.

He loves watching really dumb video mash ups, and occasionally writes stuff.

He also is a big Star Wars junkie, before the dark times, before you know…

Shen

Organizer Emeritus, Web Designer

I inherited PWG in 2011 and was the Organizer until I moved out of the area in 2016. My day job as a web & graphic designer comes in handy now!

I write as Bronwen Fleetwood, and am the kidlit columnist at DIY MFA.

We look forward to writing with you!
